The brothers married the sisters

The registers also tell the story of how two brothers from the Vachuška family of Slatina married two sisters from another family. The brothers were Matěj, who lived from 1828 to 1890, and Jan, whose only known date is his year of death, 1898. The sisters were Maria, who lived from 1830 to 1896, and Anežka, who lived from 1836 to 1907. It is possible that the parents of the grooms and the parents of the brides arranged both marriages to secure marriages for two of their offspring.

Matěj married Maria in 1852 and Jan married Anežka eight years later, in 1860. Both families had the same number of children, with eight children born alive (Matěj and Maria had one stillborn child). From the registers and maps of the time, we also know that both families lived in houses next to each other as neighbors.
