The forefather of the lineage

Legend has it that the forefather of the Czechs is the forefather Čech. The registers say that the forefather of the Vachuška family is Jiřík Vachuška from Sedlo. We know that he had a wife named Dorotka, and the parish priests recorded the baptisms of his four children as follows:

1) Vít, baptized on May 29, 1642

2) Kateřina, baptized on September 21, 1647

3) Řehoř, baptized on March 2, 1650

4) Ludmila, baptized on August 20, 1653

In the record of Vít's baptism from 1642, the register states the following word for word: “29 may okrteno ditie jmenem wytus ze vsy sedla jirika wachusky a dorotky, kmotrove...”

Perhaps Jiřík and Dorotka had more children, but the records list these four. It is precisely these records of the baptisms of his descendants that make Jiřík the forefather of the family. The date of birth of his son Vít is the oldest recorded mention of the Vachuška family. The fact that Jiřík was the father of these children means that he was born at least 18 years earlier. If Jiřík was 18 years old at the time of Vít's birth, he would have been born in 1624. If he was 40 years old, he would have been born in 1602. The oldest preserved record of the forefather of the Vachuška family thus refers to Jiřík, who was born in 1624 or earlier.
